We have recently received two clarifications from Maritime New Zealand about lashing points requirements for trucks that are subject to Maritime Rule 24B.10 (road freight/livestock/tank vehicles that are 3.5 tonnes or more gross mass travelling on ro-ro ships).
This will mainly impact members that travel across Cook Strait on Bluebridge and Interislander.
- Empty trucks are required to have lashing points, unless the truck operator holds an exemption issued by Maritime New Zealand.
- Lashing points should be within easy reach of the crew, and not obstructed by anything.

We have been working with Maritime New Zealand on an exemption process for trucks that do not meet the requirements. A new application form has been developed to make this process easier for members. You can find the form and associated guidance on this page of the Maritime New Zealand website.
