Justin’s Transport Minute – 21/07/2023

It’s hard to know how to appropriately address the terrible incident that occurred in Auckland’s CBD yesterday, but I think I speak for the entire team when I say our thoughts are with all of those affected.

The beginning of the week was stark contrast to the end with NRC throwing our support behind the National Party’s pledge to repair potholes within 24 hours and rehabilitate at least two per cent of road surfaces each year. The policy includes a $500 million fund for state highway and local roading repairs over three years which would be met from re-prioritising spending within the National Land Transport Programme, including a reduction in expenditure on activities such as speed limit reductions and speed bump installations and the Road to Zero advertising campaign, towards investment in safer roads which are properly maintained. Roading is now firmly an election issue, and a policy focussing on prioritising maintaining workable roads is a must have for any party serious about getting elected.

We had some great media coverage including Newshub, TVNZ, NZ Herald, Rural News, and Transporttalk.

We are continuing to work closely with our commercial partners to deliver the best possible benefit to members. This week I’d like to draw your attention to our insurance and financial advice partner, Super-Advice, who have created a simple and unique insurance product specially designed for road transport operators – Lifestyle Interruption Cover (LIC). This bespoke insurance offer covers 66 events, pays cash as well as ACC payments, is cost effective and easy to apply for as no underwriting is required.

And it doesn’t stop there, Super-Advice are keen to help you get ahead financially, feel free to check out their latest video on demystifying Kiwisaver funds.
