The Government has expanded Low Emissions Heavy Vehicle Fund eligibility to make it easier for New Zealand businesses to make the switch to low-emissions vehicles, which can reduce operating costs, improve efficiency and contribute to decarbonised supply chains.
The changes, based on industry feedback, include:
- Expanded vehicle weight categories, which mean vehicles in the ‘medium’ category can now receive proportionally larger grants
- Expanded age criteria for eligible conversions from 2 to 5 years old from point of application
- Increase in grant levels for zero-emission conversions, new hybrid vehicles and hybrid conversions.
Funding caps per vehicle class, supplier and customer remain the same for financial year 2025/26 ($4 million per vehicle importer/supplier and $1 million per vehicle operator excluding GST) .
