Applications open for $30 million Coastal Shipping Resilience Fund
The Government has opened applications for a new $30 million Coastal Shipping Resilience Fund aimed at strengthening the resilience and reliability of New Zealand’s coastal shipping network. The contestable fund will support projects that enhance key infrastructure such as wharves, jetties, and freight handling facilities, as well as initiatives that reinforce essential supply routes. It also extends to supporting related services, including navigation aids, energy resilience, and seafarer training.
The fund is designed to promote long-term investment in critical freight infrastructure, with a focus on a small number of high-impact projects that offer lasting value. Co-investment from applicants is expected, and the fund will prioritise proposals that contribute to supply chain stability, emissions reduction, regional economic growth, and improved disaster response capability — lessons underscored by disruptions caused by events like Cyclone Gabrielle.
Members that have ideas or projects that may enhance resilience should take the opportunity to submit applications.
