As the riding season begins and the number of motorcycles on the road doubles, this is an important time to raise awareness about rider safety and inform drivers that more motorcyclists will be on the road, so be extra vigilant.
Every year, around 50 riders and pillions lose their lives in crashes. Motorcyclists are 21 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in road crashes compared to those travelling the same distance by car.
Research from ACC shows that riders who have completed a Ride Forever course reduce their crash risk by 27% and associated claims costs by 45%. In other words, Ride Forever-trained riders crash less often, and the crashes they do have are, on average, less severe.
If you or any of your employees’ ride motorcycles or scooters, now is a great time to get ready for the riding season by:
- Checking your bike is well-maintained
- Ensure your gear is up to scratch
- Refreshing your skills by completing a Ride Forever course.
You can also show your support for Motorcycle Awareness Month by:
- Wearing yellow – the official colour of Motorcycle Awareness Month – to increase your visibility on the road
- Downloading the Motorcycle Awareness Month marketing pack, including posters and social media assets, to share with your teams and networks
- Attend a local Motorcycle Awareness Month event
- Follow Ride Forever on Facebook and Instagram to stay connected and engage with Motorcycle Awareness Month activities throughout September.
