Pass horses wide and slow

It is that time of year when horse riders across New Zealand and internationally, will be riding to promote the lifesaving message of Pass Wide and Slow.

Please support and promote PWASNZ education and awareness content in the lead up to and after the 13/14 September ride.

An interactive international map shows the rides currently registered across the world, namely England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, America, Australia and, once again, New Zealand is showing up for their equestrian community strongly.

More than 25 rides have been registered in communities, all with different motivations for participating. A common theme is people wanting to make a positive difference and or, their children ride local roads and education is the key to keeping all users safe.

We encourage cyclists and pedestrians, who are vulnerable road users too, to participate.

In New Zealand 44 people have lost their lives while riding or driving a horse on the road between 2000 – 2022. We all know there are countless near misses and serious injuries that are not captured in statistics.

Education is critical to reducing harm, so please heed this life saving message of how to approach and pass a horse and rider/ carriage driver safely on the road.

The Pass Wide and Slow website showcases the relationships and advocacy efforts to date.
