Motorway Maintenance Work

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi advises that maintenance work in your area will soon take place.

State Highway 16 (SH16) The Strand from Sunday 19 to Thursday 23 January. 

  • Westbound lane restrictions from Sunday 19 to Thursday 23 January between 10pm and 5am.

  • Eastbound full closure on Thursday 23 January between 10pm and 5am. 

Please note:

  • This work is weather dependent which may result in a change from advertised dates. Please check the NZTA Journey Planner for updates.
  • Ramp closures and lane restrictions may be in place before the advertised closure times for the mainline. On-ramp closure times are advertised every Friday in Auckland’s NZTA Traffic Bulletin.

Westbound lane restrictions from Sunday 19 to Thursday 23 January  

There will be westbound lane restrictions between Tamaki Drive and Beach Road/ Parnell Rise from Sunday 19 to Thursday 23 January between 10pm and 5am. Beach Road/ Parnell Rise and SH16 Port/The Strand will not be accessible via approaching side streets. A signposted detour will be in place.

Recommended Detour: Please use the recommended detour via Quay Street, Tangihua Street and Beach Road. 

Noise: There may be increased noise levels as the team carry out road rehabilitation project. 

Eastbound full closure on Thursday 23 January  

There will be a full eastbound closure between Alten Road and Beach Road/ Parnell Rise on Thursday 23 January between 10pm and 5am.  

Recommended Detour: Please use the recommended detour via Grafton Road, Symonds Street, Anzac Avenue, Beach Road and Parnell Rise. 

Please note: Over dimension vehicle to please exit at SH16 Wellesley Street eastbound off-ramp and follow the signposted detour.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi advises of the following closures for motorway improvements. Work delayed by bad weather will be completed at the next available date, prior to Friday, 24 January 2025. Please note this Traffic Bulletin is updated every Friday.
