Auckland Road Report

P2D Victoria Street full closure at SH22 intersection from 9pm Tuesday 8 April

Victoria Street full road closure at SH22 intersection – Stage 1B of the SH1 Papakura to Drury project is now underway.
As part of Stage 1B, we are realigning the Victoria Street intersection with SH22/Great South Road.
To allow this, the southern end of Victoria Street must be closed so the intersection can be realigned directly opposite Mercer Street, and traffic lights will be installed at the new location.
From 9pm on Tuesday 8 April, the southern end of Victoria Street will close to motorists. The intersection with SH22 is expected to remain closed for six months.
During this closure, access to Auranga will be maintained via Jesmond Road from the west and the Bremner Road bridge over SH1 from the east.

SH16 Port area summer works 25 update – 3 April 2025

Our team will still be around for a few more weeks, completing finishing work and tidying up the Beach Road compound. There may also be some activities that require overnight traffic management.

We will be completing final line marking, capping and greening of the Special Vehicle Lane on The Strand between Sunday 4 May and Sunday 11 May (Sunday to Thursday only) overnight between 10pm and 5am. This work will include a full eastbound closure of The Strand followed by a full westbound closure of The Strand and a full closure of Gladstone Road between The Strand and Balfour Road.

The foundation for the weigh scales and electronic sign has been installed, and the team will return to put the scales and signs in.  The dates are still to be confirmed, but we will send out a works notification via our email alerts.

The Strand Optimisation Project – stage 2 improvements continues to move forward with the consenting process. NZTA anticipate that physical works will begin in the coming months, although the final timeline will depend on the outcome of the consenting process and the final construction methodology.

Please note weather or unforeseen events may affect the advertised dates. Updates will be posted online at www.nzta.govt.nz/asm/summer-works.

State Highway 1 Papakura to Drury project.

Two northbound lanes on SH1 between Drury Interchange and the BP motorway service centre will be shifted westward overnight on Sunday 6 April, weather permitting.

A full motorway closure in both directions between Papakura and Drury Interchanges is required overnight from 9pm on Sunday 6 April to 5am on Monday 7 April to roll out this traffic switch. During this and other motorway closures necessary for this project, traffic will be detoured along Great South Road. If delayed due to weather, the planned traffic switch will occur on the next available night.

Safety improvements coming for SH1 Mt Wellington SB on-ramp

(NZTA) will be carrying out safety improvements on the State Highway 1 (SH1) Mt Wellington southbound on-ramp from late April until July 2025.

Improvements will include an additional lane to merge with the existing two lanes on the southbound on-ramp and reinstating the signalised pedestrian crossing at the bottom of the left turn slip lane.

Work is expected to start Sunday 27 April 2025 and will be carried out overnight, Sunday to Thursday, between 9pm and 5am, excluding public holidays.

While work is being carried out the southbound on-ramp will be closed. There will be a signposted detour to SH1 Princes St, Otahuhu, which is expected to add 10 to 15 minutes to people’s journeys. Alternatively, motorists can also consider detouring to SH1 Ellerslie Interchange.

People should be prepared for congestion when the team sets up the detour and puts the closure in place. Congestion should ease as traffic starts following the detour.

Contractors may be on-site the week prior to work starting to set up during one overnight shift. The ramp will be closed and a detour in place during this time.
