SH18 Upper Harbour Bridge barrier upgrades – 2 to 11 June 2026
From Monday 1 to Sunday 11 June between 9pm and 5am (excluding Friday and Saturday nights) we will be carrying out barrier upgrades on the eastern side of Upper Harbour Bridge (near Tauhinu Road).
The barrier upgrades include strengthening and replacing sections to will improve safety for road users and will require a combination of lane restrictions and full closures.
We are still planning the TMP but at this stage over dimensions will be escorted across if required. There may be issues with wider loads, so we strongly recommend that operators contact NAC@asm.nzta.govt.nz at least three days before travelling for instructions.

Median barrier installation SH1 Bombay
From Sunday 10 May to mid-June 2026 we will begin upgrading the median barriers on State Highway 1 (SH1) between Ramarama and Mill Road, Bombay.
Full southbound closures will be required Sundays to Thursdays between 9pm and 5am to create a safe working environment. When the closures are in, motorists will be detoured via Great South Road. This will add approximately 10 minutes to your journey.
In preparation for the upgrade we will begin installing temporary barriers on the northbound median between Sunday 3 and Wednesday 6 May, 9pm to 5am. A full northbound closure will be in place at night for the installation.
At the end of installation another 5 nights will be required to remove the temporary barriers.
Over dimension vehicles will need to be escorted through the closures. When the northbound closure is in vehicles over 5 metres wide may need to be stacked until the site is safe to travel through. Please contact our network access coordinators on NAC@asm.nzta.govt.nz for instructions.
Kahikatea Flat Road Closure 11/05/2026
These works will include the construction a new retaining infrastructure, installation of anchors and new road surface to help future-proof this section of road and restore two-lane access for vehicles. Work will take place from Monday 11 May to Friday 25 September 2026 between 7am and 7pm.
The detour route will be along Pine Valley Road and Dairy Flat Highway.
