SH1 Mangamuka Gorge (southern side)
Retaining wall construction to repair an underslip (A43) is 95% complete, with final works on track to be completed before the end of May 2026. Over the past week, scaffolding has been removed, guardrails installed, and equipment and temporary structures cleared to make the site safe and ready for dual traffic through the gorge over the long weekend. The road will be fully open over ANZAC weekend. Minor finishing works, including kerb and channel installation and asphalt surface reinstatement, will be completed before the end of May.
SH1 Kawakawa to Whangārei
SH1 Te Kamo, Springs Flat Roundabout Project (Whangārei District Council)
A lane shift is in place on SH1 to allow drainage work on the eastern side of the project. A temporary speed restriction remains in place for the duration of construction, and the project is on track for completion by February 2027.
SH1 Whangārei to Wellsford
SH1 Wellsford, near Maeneene Road
Drainage installation and pavement repair work is underway until Thursday 7 May, from 8pm to 5am (with some day works possible as required, from 6:30am to 5:30pm). A single lane closure with stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions will be in place.
SH10
SH10 Kaingaroa, north of Zidich Road
Enabling works are complete, and the site is being made safe for traffic over winter. Crews have installed new drainage and prepared the area for pavement rehabilitation. Weather conditions are not suitable to complete the remaining rebuild now, so this work will move to early next construction season, taking about 3 weeks to finish. Ahead of winter, crews will do sealing, line marking and safety tasks to protect the road. Speed restrictions may apply, and drivers should take care.
SH11
SH11 Paihia, between MacMurray Road and Kings Road
Drainage improvements and asphalt repairs are underway between MacMurray Road and Kings Road and will continue until Thursday 30 April, from 7am to 6pm. SH11 is closed northbound at all times, with the southbound lane remaining open. Northbound traffic is detoured via MacMurray Road and Kings Road. In the last few days of the project, stop/go traffic management will be in place at the SH11/MacMurray Road intersection. Parking bays south of Kings Road will stay closed for the duration of the project, but visitors can park north of Kings Road and walk to businesses. Access for residents and hotels will remain. Expect some noise during work hours.
The short detour will stay in place over ANZAC weekend rather than temporarily reopening the road, as this would create unnecessary cost and delay. Crews will ensure the site is safe during the holiday period.
