Works on State Highway 3 at Vogel Street and Napier Road and Woodlands Road, Woodville

Te Ahu a Turanga: Manawatū Tararua Highway Alliance, on behalf of NZ Transport Agency WakaKotahi (NZTA), would like to advise you of upcoming roadworks that may impact your journey times.

What’s happening?

From 24 February 2025, construction work to connect the Eastern Roundabout of Te Ahu a Turanga:
Manawatū Tararua Highway to the existing roads will be undertaken on parts of SH3 Vogel St, SH3
Napier Road and Woodlands Road (the alternative route for the closed SH3 through the Manawatū
Gorge) in Woodville.

This work will require a full 24/7 road closure with detours and is expected to take up to 5 weeks to
complete (weather permitting).
Freight (heavy vehicles) will be detoured via the Pahiatua Track in both directions:
• The detour is from SH2, via Tay St, Station St, SH2 and over the Pahiatua Track. Vice versa
for the other direction of travel.
NOTE: NZTA has issued a temporary addendum allowing HPMV permit holders to use the section of SH57 between Aokautere and Ashhurst during the Woodville closure.

Motorists (light vehicles) will be detoured via the Saddle Road in both directions:
• The detour is from SH2 via Pinfold Rd, Oxford Rd and over the Saddle Rd. Vice versa for them other direction of travel.

NOTE: Vehicle up to 30 tonnes in weight can take the Saddle Rd detour. Please ensure you do not exceed this limit as there is a bridge on Oxford Rd with a weight restriction.

Traffic management will be in place to manage the detours, including at the Ashhurst end of the Saddle Road and the corner of McLean Street and Oxford Road to ensure heavy vehicles are aware of the requirements.

The detours from these works are expected to add about 20 minutes for heavy vehicles.
Construction work will occur between the hours of 5am and 8pm (weather permitting), with the evening hours to be used for preparation work, surveying and testing.

In the event of bad weather, work will begin on the next fine day and may extend the programme out.

You can keep up to date with any potential programming changes via our online channels such as Facebook and Journey Planner: https://www.journeys.nzta.govt.nz/journey-planner2

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete these important works to ensure the highway can open as projected in the middle of 2025.
