NorthPower work along State highway 1 in Otaika, near Appleton Place.

Thursday 17th & Friday 18th October – Stop/Go between 9am – 4pm
Sunday 20th North-Bound Closure 7am – 5pm

Northpower maintenance works includes replacing a double pole structure, installing two ground mounted transformers, upgrading lines that cross the state highway, and cross arm works on State Highway 1 in Otaika.

This section of SH1 is one lane in each direction and is quite narrow, with not much berm or shoulder area. Some of the work will be on the corner of Appleton Place/SH1. To complete the works safely, Northpower require Traffic Management and stop/go controlling for the preparation work on Thursday 17 & Friday 18 October, and closure of the northbound lane on Sunday 20 October from 7am to 5pm.

Appleton Place traffic will need controlling for the entire 3 days. There will be a power outage to complete the work on Sunday from 9am to 3.30pm.

The detour route for north bound traffic will be Rewa Rewa Rd/Kioreroa Rd/Okara Dr/Porowini Ave/Maunu Rd. Traffic light phasing can be changed to help manage traffic. The detour will be suggested as an alternative route for the 17 & 18 October and be in place for the 20 October.

The Detour is not approved for HPMV due to bridges along the route. The contractor will be stacking HPMV northbound, then platooning them through site while southbound customers are stopped.

Paparoa Culvert Replacement

Fulton Hogan are delivering the Paparoa Culvert Replacement on behalf of Whangarei District Council. Work will begin Monday 14 October to complete the construction of a temporary road at the Paparoa and
Waikiekie North Road intersection. This work is off the road. On Tuesday 29 October traffic will be shifted onto the temporary road and a one-way system with three traffic lights (north and south bound on Paparoa Road and one on Waikiekie North Road). A temporary 30kmh speed limit will be in place throughout construction.

Once the traffic is shifted, work will begin to replace the old culvert under Paparoa Road and will take approximately 7 weeks to complete. The project involves replacing the old culvert with a much larger box culvert.

There are no night works planned and our activities are weather dependent.
