Overnight closure of SH1 Desert Rd – Sun 15 Feb to Mon 9 Mar
A reminder about our upcoming overnight closures of SH1 Desert Road between Rangipō and Waiouru.
The start date for these overnight closures is locked in. Starting Sunday 15 February.
During the overnight closures, the road will be open during the day with temporary speed limits in place. There is additional general maintenance, outside of the T2W project, which also needs to be completed this season so there may also be some stop/go during the day.
The detour during the overnight closures is via SH41, SH47, SH4, SH49 and back to SH1 in Waiouru, and vice versa. This is the usual recommended route whenever the Desert Road is closed and adds approximately 35 minutes to journeys.
